  • The National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center: Socio-environmental synthesis generates useful new insights about the world’s most challenging environmental problems by combining diverse forms of knowledge in creative ways. Focusing on the complex interaction of humans and the natural environment, such synthesis opens up new ways of thinking about a particular problem, generating discoveries and solutions.
  • National Center for Smart Growth Research and Education: Information on smart growth, land use and environment, GIS data resources, etc.

  • Counseling Center: Resources available to UMD students, faculty, and staff. Visit this website for counseling services, disability support, learning assistance, and testing and research.
  • Undocumented TerpsThe University of Maryland is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, including undocumented students. Undocumented students, who often face barriers and challenges as they navigate campus policies, require support services that address their unique needs. As such, the Office of Multicultural Involvement & Community Advocacy (MICA) and the Asian American Studies Program (AAST) have partnered with other UMD departments and allies to increase institutional support for undocumented students, providing advising related to financial aid and admissions. Ultimately, the University strives to provide resources and guidance to support the advancement of undocumented students during their time at Maryland. Financial Resources

For many students and their families college is a major investment. We recognize that families may need some assistance to make college more affordable. At the University of Maryland, we offer an array of financial aid programs, scholarships, grants, loans and student employment opportunities. We encourage you to use our online information to educate yourself about our merit scholarships, need-based financial aid programs and other sources of aid, available to assist you in financing your Maryland education. It is a simple process to apply for merit scholarships and need-based financial aid. Please visit the University of Maryland's financial aid web page.

Graduate: If you are interested in a Graduate Assistantship with the Landscape Architecture program, please contact Dr. Christopher Ellis, cdellis@umd.edu. For university-wide Graduate Assistantships, please check out www.ejobs.umd.edu to get more information. 

Academically talented students can apply for College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR) merit scholarships. A separate application is required once an admit decision is rendered by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. For AGNR scholarship application details please go to http://agnr.umd.edu/students/scholarships. Priority is given to those students who have submitted a complete application to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by the November 1 priority deadline.

MDASLA Job Shadow Program

MDASLA Job Shadow Program

The Maryland ASLA Job Shadow Program is one of the most successful programs for students and is an excellent experience. LARC389 Internship Class

LARC 389

LARC389 is offered in the Fall semester. You must make sure to get approval of your internship. We want to make sure you get the best experience out of your internship.

Course description: A supervised internship where students earn credit for work experience related to their career goals. Each student must keep a work log, work on a special project, and produce a report related to this project. An evaluation from the external supervisor of the project is required. Participation requires application to the internship advisor in the preceding semester.

GIS Internships

Maryland Department of Planning Internship

The Maryland Department of Planning has partnered with us to provide a year-round internship opportunity for four students in the MLA program. Students will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge in fields such as planning, GIS, geography, and communications, while gaining valuable work experience. 

General Logistics 

  • The internship will take place during both fall and spring semesters. Students will work an average of 20 hours per week.

  • For each academic term, interns will be entitled to all holidays granted to University of Maryland employees. 

  • Stipends are available for 1-2 semesters. 

Selection

  • The MLA Program and MDP will agree on minimal qualifications for the Intern. The Landscape Architecture program will select the candidates for the internships and MDP will have the final selection of the interns.
