Welcome to Maryland Landscape Architecture!
Thank you for your interest in our Landscape Architecture  program! We are excited to have you join us this upcoming semester. We look forward to meeting you during your orientation visit. In order to prepare ahead we've prepared some information below for you to familiarize yourself with. Of course, if you have any questions please feel free to email us or write them down for when you visit during orientation!

UMD Email Address: Have you set up your directory ID? Visit the Division of Information Technology's New Incoming Students page! This ID is important as it will establish your UMD email, and allow you to register for classes, view your financial account, and so much more!


All students in our major are required to come in for advising once a semester. Your first semesters you will meet with Dr. David Myers, Director of Landscape Architecture and of the MLA program, and Diana Cortez but in later semesters you will be assigned a faculty advisor that you must meet with. You can view our general advising procedures, including the list of assigned faculty advisors, on our Advising page. A lot of the questions you may have may already be addressed on our Advising FAQs page. Please make sure to read it to answer any questions you may have. If your question is not listed there, or need clarification, please make sure to contact us!

Helpful links and other information:

    1. You should view your unofficial transcript. Verify your major is declared as Landscape Architecture. If not, please contact us!
    2. To view all the courses offered on campus you will visit Testudo's Schedule of Classes.
    3. Don't forget to visit our Advising FAQs page as well!
    4. You can also check out the Registration Guide provided by the Office of the Registrar. This guide contains information for all students regarding registration procedures and policies.
    5. To register for classes you will do by visiting the Registration Drop/Add and Schedule Adjustment page. You might want to read more information about registering here.
    6. Please let your advisor know if you are planning on dropping a course. This might have an impact to your time to graduation so it is important that you discuss this with your advisor prior to dropping the course.
    7. Need parking information? Please check out the Department of Transportation's Student Parking page.
    8. You also need to get a student ID card. To do so you can go to the Mitchell Building. You can read more about ID cards here.
    9. If you are an international student, please make sure to visitthe International Student & Scholar Serviceswebsite. Go to Students > Newly Admitted for more information pertaining to international students!
    10. Math Placement Exam: Everyone except for students who have completed Calculus either via AP exam or at another college MUST take the Math Placement Exam.  If you would like to do some basic review, prepare for, and take the exam, please visit the following page:
    11. Make sure you have carefully reviewed all instructions provided by the Orientation Office. To verify, please visit:
    12. Go to Health Center (across from Stamp Union) to find out about what’s required for your Vaccination records. You WILL NOT be allowed to register for next semester’s classes if you have not been “cleared” by the Health Center.  Preliminary info is here:
