Busy summer for LARC faculty and students

Follow some of Dr. Chanse and MLA 3rd year students achievements this summer!

Last week during the Ecological Society of America (ESA) Conference (August 10-15), Dr. Chanse and UMD MLA student Chris Shipley participated in the week-long 2015 Earth Stewardship Initiative (ESI), led by the Yale School of Forestry. Additional partners, leaders, and participants included Biohabitats, Parks & People Foundation, Berkeley Ecosystem Study, the Baltimore Department of Public Works, Mahan Rykiel & Associates, U Michigan's Dr. Joan Nassauer, UVA Professor Julie Bargmann, Ken Smith, and John Beardsley, among a host of others.

As part of the ESI, MLA student presented her summer work with her fellow interns from design firm Mahan Rykiel & Associates as part of the Francis Scott Key Workshop on Tuesday, August. 11th.

For ESA, MLA Student Amina Mohamed presented a poster, "Visualizing Nature. Youth Perspectives: Perceptions and Relationships with Nature." Her co-authors were: Victoria Chanse, Sacoby Wilson, Laura Delmarre, Paul Leisnham, Amanda Rockler, and Adel Shirmohammadi.

On Friday, Aug. 14, Dr. Chanse presented a talk on "Student Design & Planning Investigations into Local Sea Level Rise on Maryland's Eastern Shore" as part of a larger panel with Morgan Grove (Baltimore Ecosystem Study), Joan Nassauer, Alex Felson (Yale School of Forestry), and Dr. Sacoby Wilson, among others, at ESA.
